Dr. Don Bliss defines resistance as "the condition in which a parasite has the ability to survive the killing effect of a product."
Most research authorities today believe that no matter what compound is used to battle parasites, exclusive use of any one over a period of time can result in resistance. For example, recent studies indicate that ascarids may be beginning to show resistance to avermectin compounds. Fortunately, ascarids have never been shown to be resistant to fenbendazole, the active ingredient in Safe-Guard®.
Ultimately, no one deworming compound is equally effective against all organisms, or all stages of a parasite's life cycle. And any one has the very real potential to create resistance over time. Therefore, the very best weapon available today is a rotational, frequent deworming program (see chart) that varies the compounds used and incorporates the extraordinary safety and efficacy of the Safe-Guard Power Dose as an essential part of the rotation.
